The truth is, most of those websites are microsites that use “odin” in their domain names (like odindownload.com, samsungodin.com, downloadodin.com, and so on) just to trick you into believing this is an official website. If you are a new Samsung user, you may not be familiar with well-known developer Chainfire who developed SuperSU and CF-Auto-Root applications for Samsung devices. Rooting an Android device would not be easy without its contribution. He released an app called Mobile Odin Pro which works on old Samsung Galaxy devices. ChainFire then released another app that can flash firmware files, custom ROMs, and recovery images. The name of the new app is FlashFire and it requires root access to work.

What Do BL, AP, CP, & CSC Mean In Odin?
When you launch Odin, you will be greeted by the Odin window and will see various buttons with options like BL, AP, CP, CSC, UserData, and PIT. If you don’t know what these terms mean, I’ll explain them for you to understand better.
- Auto Reboot : This option is enabled by default in Odin. Keep it that way if you are going to flash stock firmware. However, due to bootloader encryption on most Samsung devices, you should disable ‘Auto Reboot‘ before installing TWRP or any custom recovery.
- Nand Erase : If you select this option in Odin, it will completely erase everything on the Samsung device including the Operating System and all the data contained in it.
- Re-Partition : This option should be checked only if you installed the Samsung PIT file along with the firmware. Enabling ‘Re-Partition’ will re-partition the Samsung device to its default state. Do not use this option unless you understand what a partition is.
- F Reset Time : Check this option only if you want to reset the firmware flashing timer on the device.
- BP : This means Bootloader and as the name suggests, is used to flash bootloader files with .tar or .tar.md5 extensions.
- AP : In earlier versions of Odin, this option was called PDA and was used to flash single-file firmware, recovery, and CF-Root files. The full name of the AP is ‘Android Processor’.
- CP : CP stands for ‘Core Processor’ and is used to flash Modem files that come with Samsung’s firmware binary packages. In older versions of Odin, this option was called Phone.
- CSC : The full form of CSC is ‘Consumer Software Customization’ or ‘Country Specific Code’. The CSC component of the Samsung firmware is specific to the network provider and geographic region. In other words, it contains customizations related to geographic location, APN settings, carrier branding, and other things.
- PIT : or Partition Information Table contains information such as partition table of device storage, partition name, block size, number of blocks, and other technical matters. Each device has a different PIT file associated with it. PIT files are not meant to be flashed unless the device partition table layout is corrupted for some reason.

You can also flash the firmware binary or recovery file by following the quick steps explained below:
- If you are going to use Samsung Odin for the first time, here are some things you should know. Odin is a portable tool, that means you don’t need to install it on your PC. When you have download Odin.zip file, simply extract it using a Zip extractor tool like 7Zip, WinZip, etc. Navigate to the Odin folder and do a right click on Odin3.exe with the mouse and select ‘Run as administrator’.

- Make sure you have downloaded the firmware or custom recovery for your device.
- Download and install Samsung USB driver on computer.
- Enable USB Debugging on Android device.
- Now turn off the Samsung device and boot into Download Mode or Odin. To do so, you have to press and hold a certain hardware key combination simultaneously for 2-3 seconds and then press the Volume Up key when you see the Warning screen.
- Samsung devices with Home button : Volume Down + Home + Power keys.
- Galaxy devices without Home button but Bixby button: Volume Down + Bixby + Power buttons.
- Samsung devices without Home or Bixby buttons : Volume Up + Volume Down + Power keys.
- Connect the device to the computer. Make sure to use the original Samsung USB cable that came with the phone or Tab to avoid problems. When Odin detects your device, the COM port ID will highlight in light blue.
- If you want to flash a single file firmware file or TWRP recovery.tar.md5, just click AP button in Odin and add the recovery file to it. Please note that if you are going to flash TWRP recovery, you have to disable Auto Reboot in Odin. You will find this option under the Options tab in Odin.
- If you get 4-file firmware binaries, click the BL button in Odin, navigate to the firmware folder and add the file that has “BL_” in its name. Then click the AP button and select the firmware binary with “AP_” in its name. AP files will take a while to load in Odin due to their large size. Don’t panic if the Odin window is not responding some time after selecting the AP file. Similarly, add the CP, and CSC (plain CSC if you want a clean install and HOME_CSC if you don’t want to wipe device data) files to the appropriate fields in Odin.
- Finally, click the Start button to start the installation.
- If you install a recovery file, it will only take a few seconds to install. However, due to its large size, the firmware file may take 3-5 minutes to install. So you have to be patient and calm.
- Last, you will get a PASS!! notification in Odin. This indicates that Odin has successfully flashed the recovery/firmware file.
- When the firmware is installed, the Samsung device will reboot automatically.
